Adventures and dirty hands are made in KIDtober. Remember, when the fun is done, wash your hands

Be lead-aware this KIDtober

KIDtober is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy all the activities our community has to offer.  So it’s particularly important to remember that good hand washing and drying is one of the most effective ways to keep lead out of the body.

Plain soap (bar, liquid or foam) and water is the best way to wash your hands. Hand sanitisers are good for germs but they aren’t made for cleaning visibly dirty hands and they won’t remove lead dust.

We should all wash and dry our hands (using soap):

  • when they are visibly dirty
  • after sneezing, coughing or blowing our nose
  • before preparing food
  • before eating and drinking
  • after playing outside
  • after using the bathroom
  • after playing with pets or animals
  • after working in the garden
  • before going to bed

By following good hand hygiene we not only keep germs away but we can also keep blood lead levels as low as possible.
